Cosmetic dentistry
A brighter shade, safely supervised.
Professional whitening lightens the natural shade of your teeth using a controlled concentration of whitening gel. Carried out under supervision, it is a conservative treatment — nothing is removed from the tooth.
Teeth Whitening
What it involves.
Teeth darken over the years through ordinary use: tea, coffee, red wine, tobacco and simple ageing all contribute. Whitening addresses that discolouration, and works best on natural tooth structure that is otherwise healthy.
We begin by checking that your teeth and gums are healthy and identifying the cause of the discolouration, because not every stain responds to whitening. Where it will not — for instance on a tooth darkened from within, or on existing crowns and fillings — we will tell you plainly and discuss the alternatives.
Options available
- In-clinic whitening completed in a single appointment
- Custom-fitted take-home trays for gradual whitening
- A combination of both for more stubborn discolouration
- Internal bleaching for a single darkened, root-treated tooth
Good to know
- Crowns, veneers and fillings do not whiten — they may need replacing to match
- Temporary sensitivity is common and usually settles within a few days
- Results are not permanent; how long they last depends on diet and habits
- Supervised whitening protects the gums in a way over-the-counter kits cannot
